Germany has officially inaugurated the He Dreiht offshore wind farm recently, which boasts 960MW of installed capacity and 64 turbines and ranks as the country's biggest offshore wind project.
The facility is projected to supply electricity for 1.1 million German households, helping the nation meet its renewable energy goals and bolster energy security.
Its turbines are produced in Germany. Each foundation has a 9-meter diameter and 70-meter length; the turbines feature a hub height of 142 meters and a rotor diameter of 236 meters. Connecting components are manufactured in Belgium, Britain, the Netherlands and Poland.
The €2.4 billion ($2.76 billion) project is fully funded via long-term power purchase agreements. EnBW owns a 50.1% stake, while the rest is held by a consortium including Allianz Global Investors (on behalf of Allianz entities), AIP Management and Norges Bank Investment Management.
"We have invested billions in the expansion of renewable energy. He Dreiht is the largest single investment EnBW has made in renewables," said Georg Stamatelopoulos, chairman of EnBW's board of management.
Germany's Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider commented: "The new He Dreiht offshore wind farm sends a strong signal for the further expansion of renewables in our country. It will make us less dependent on fossil fuels."
