China Southern Power Grid plans to invest 46 billion yuan ($6.81 billion) in Hainan's power infrastructure during the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period, a nearly 70% increase from the 14th "Five-Year Plan".

By the end of August this year, Hainan's renewable energy capacity reached 12.96 GW, accounting for 50.5% of total installed capacity. This comprises 9.94 GW of solar, 2.56 GW of wind and 460 MW of biomass.

At the end of 2020, Hainan's renewable energy capacity stood at just 2.11 GW, meaning the scale has grown more than fivefold in just over five years.

At the end of June this year, Hainan's renewable energy capacity surpassed 12.71 GW, exceeding 50.1% of total installed capacity — a historic turning point for the province's energy development.

During the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period, Hainan's planned offshore wind development scale exceeds 12 GW.
