Fujian, Ningxia complete first cross-regional computing-power coordination drill

Fujian and Ningxia on September16 completed their first full-process cross-regional coordination drill linking computing power with electricity, state grid newspaper reported.

The drill, launched via video link at 8:45 a.m. local time, was guided by the development and reform commissions and energy regulators of both regions. State Grid Fujian Electric Power Co., Ltd. and State Grid Ningxia Electric Power Co., Ltd. jointly carried out the exercise with China Mobile's Fujian and Ningxia branches.

The drill aimed to verify cross-regional computing load transfer capability, promote deeper integration of new-type power grids and computing networks, boost consumption of new energy in Ningxia and test flexible interaction of adjustable resources at data centers in Fujian.

During the drill, computing tasks from pilot cabinets in Fuzhou and Xiamen were dispatched via China Mobile's computing network brain platform to a data center in Zhongwei, Ningxia, where they ran stably. Real-time power curves on monitoring screens at both regions' power load management centers showed Fujian's electricity load falling quickly after the transfer, freeing up capacity during the midday peak, while Ningxia's curve rose in tandem, absorbing surplus solar power generated locally.

Grid companies in both regions used a new-type power load management system to achieve precise matching and dynamic control of computing loads. The computing load adjustment lasted until 5 p.m. on September 16, with the full process running smoothly and meeting expectations. Both regions monitored the entire drill and will conduct follow-up data evaluations.

Fujian and Ningxia have complementary resource endowments that underpin the coordination, according to the report. Ningxia is rich in new energy resources with strong solar output at midday, while Fujian has a developed digital economy and robust demand for data center computing power.

State Grid Fujian and State Grid Ningxia established a cross-regional invitation-response model — grid initiates demand, operator responds, computing network brain coordinates, both ends execute simultaneously and results undergo closed-loop evaluation. The two grid companies connected data links among the new-type power load management system, virtual power plant platforms and the computing network brain, resolving key technical challenges such as cross-regional instruction synchronization and load timing matching through two rounds of simulated joint debugging, providing technical and institutional support for the drill.
