Mexico's Ministry of Economy has launched an anti-dumping probe targeting steel plate imports originating from Japan, following an official resolution released in the country's Federal Official Gazette.

The case stems from a petition filed by domestic producer Grupo Acerero, which alleged dumped pricing of Japanese steel plates and claimed such imports have inflicted material injury on Mexico's home-grown steel sector.

The investigation covers steel plates falling under Mexican TIGIE tariff codes 7208.51.04 and 7208.52.01. Subject goods are defined as Japanese-origin material, regardless of which third-party jurisdiction handles the actual export shipment to Mexico.

Authorities will examine dumping activity across 2025 (January 1-December 31), while the injury assessment spans the three-year window from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025.

Interested parties including producers and other stakeholders are granted 23 business days to file submissions containing legal arguments, supporting facts and documentary evidence. Should the ministry uncover evidence of unfair trade practices and domestic harm, it may impose definitive anti-dumping duties as a final remedy.
