Xinjiang coal output falls 5.7% YoY in Jan-Jul 2026

Xinjiang's raw coal output totaled 298 million tonnes in Jan-Jul 2026, down 5.7% year on year, according to the Xinjiang Coal Trading Center. The decline was driven by two factors: coal mines shifting from volume-oriented sales to price-focused strategies amid an industry-wide anti-involution push, prioritizing inventory reduction and operational efficiency; and ongoing regional safety inspections following earlier mine accidents, which increased checks and self-inspections, limiting capacity release.
