China and Mongolia's cross-border railway, the Ganqimaodu-Gashuunsukhait line, entered the track-laying stage on September 1, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The railway marks the second cross-border rail link between the two countries, nearly 70 years after the Erenhot-Zamiin Uud line opened in 1956.

The rail line, which broke ground in May 2025, runs from Ganqimaodu port in China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region to Gashuunsukhait port in Mongolia, with completion targeted for 2027.

The project lays dual-gauge tracks — 1,520 mm broad gauge and 1,435 mm standard gauge — spanning approximately 33.5 km in total.

All substructure works including pile foundations, caps and pier shafts have been completed, with girder erection scheduled to finish by October and all track-laying by year-end.
