US coal production totaled 42.61 million short tons (38.65 million tonnes) in July 2026, down 5.66% year on year but up 4.65% from the previous month, according to the US Energy Information Administration's (EIA) latest Monthly Energy Review released on August 26.
During January-July, US coal output reached 298 million short tons, down 2.39% from 306 million short tons in the same period last year.
On the export front, US coal shipments totaled 9.16 million short tons in June 2026, up 32.46% year on year and edging 0.3% higher month on month.

January-June cumulative exports stood at 50.54 million short tons, up 8.16% from 46.72 million short tons a year earlier.
