Some coal mines in Linfen and Jinzhong of Shanxi resumed production after passing inspections, while several mines in Qinyuan, Changzhi also completed checks and are expected to restart this month, according to the latest survey by Sxcoal.

However, regional inspections remain stringent, with some mines resuming operations without reaching full capacity, keeping overall supply tight.

As of August 17, a total of 50 coking coal mines across five cities – Changzhi, Taiyuan, Jinzhong, Luliang and Linfen – remained suspended, involving 53.8 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of capacity. The number of halted mines fell by two from August 14 and by 69 from May 25. Idled capacity declined by 2.1 Mtpa from August 14 and by 80.7 Mtpa from May 25.
