Coal production in the U.S. was estimated to drop 0.81% from a week ago to 9.42 million short tons (8.54 million tonnes) over the week ending May 2, down 10.45% from the previous year, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on May 7.

Coal production in Wyoming and Montana combined was estimated to be 4.33 million short tons in the given period, down 1.82% on the week yet up 6.87% year on year.

Illinois's coal output was estimated to gain 2.47% week on week but fall 21.36% on the year to 591,000 short t
