Coal inventories at centrally-dispatched power plants in China's Shaanxi were enough for 24 days of use at the end of the first quarter (Q1), with coal shipments, consumption and stockpiles all above year-earlier levels, strengthening fuel supply security, the provincial development planner said in a meeting on April 21.

The commission said electricity demand from equipment manufacturing, high-quality investment projects and emerging productive sectors grew strongly during the quarter, helping optimize the province's power consumption structure.

Total electricity consumption in Shaanxi rose 1.3% year on year to 67.6 TWh in Q1. Power generation increased 5.4% to 76.79 TWh, while outbound electricity transmission climbed 5.3% to 24.87 TWh.

Officials said the growth in power exports helped convert Shaanxi's energy resource advantages into broader economic gains.

Looking ahead to the second quarter, the meeting forecast peak summer electricity demand in Shaanxi at 47 GW, up 4.7% from a year earlier, with supply and demand expected to remain broadly balanced.
