China imported 7.87 million tonnes of coking coal in February, rising 13.8% year on year yet falling 21.5% month on month, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs.

The import value came in at $1.39 billion last month, up 3.0% year on year but down 20.6% from a month earlier. This translates to average import price at $176.1/t, falling $18.5/t from the preceding year yet up $2.0/t month on month.

China imported 17.89 million tonnes of coking coal in the first two months this year, a 36.5% increase year on year, with the import value up 21.6% to $3.13 billion, data showed.

China's anthracite imports stood at 0.87 million tonnes in February, down 47.3% from the year-ago level yet up 0.9% on the month.

Import value of anthracite totaled $130 million, slumping 63.7% on the year but rising 3.1% from the previous month. The average import price was calculated at $151.3/t, down $68.5/t from a year ago yet up $3.1/t month on month.

China imported 1.73 million tonnes of anthracite over January-February, tumbling 42.8% from the year before. The aggregate import amounts came in at $260 million, plunging 61.1% on the year, data showed.
