Datang Lvsigang coal power unit starts commercial operation

Datang Lvsigang's 2×1 GW expansion project has begun commercial operation after its No. 5 unit passed a 168-hour full-load trial run, according to Datang Jiangsu.

The unit achieved a 100% average load rate during the trial, with stable equipment performance and environmental indicators meeting standards, the company said. All technical and economic parameters reached design values.

The project, which broke ground on September 29, 2024, is a key clean and efficient supporting power source under Jiangsu's "build first, retrofit later" policy and Datang's first gigawatt-level coal power project in the province. It forms part of Datang's integrated "wind, solar, thermal, gas and storage" energy base at Lvsigang.

Once both units are operational, the project will generate nearly 10 TWh annually, enough to meet the yearly electricity demand of about 3 million households. It is expected to save approximately 197,000 tonnes of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 513,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to adding roughly 20,000 hectares of forest.

The project is set to become a major power support point for the Yangtze River Delta region, enhancing regional power supply security, grid peak-shaving capacity and energy mix optimization.
