Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has approved about 95% of submitted 2026 coal work plans and budgets (RKAB), with the remainder still being processed, Director General of Minerals and Coal Tri Winarno said on September 29.
Tri did not disclose detailed figures for the approved plans but said the outstanding 5% would be completed. He was responding to concerns over energy security constraints arising from the regulation of coal production quotas in Indonesia.
The ministry initially set the 2026 coal RKAB at 600 million tonnes before adjusting the target in line with price fluctuations and supply requirements for energy security.
Tri said production this year is estimated at around 720 million tonnes, based on actual output of 423 million tonnes through July, with average monthly production of about 60 million tonnes.
The projection remains below the 2025 production realization of about 817 million tonnes. Indonesia has tightened coal output through the RKAB system in recent years as Jakarta balances domestic supply obligations against export markets.
