China's National Climate Center said sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific have warmed continuously since September, with the pentad and dekad indices exceeding 3 degrees Celsius for the first time since records began, according to a monitoring update. The center expects those temperatures to keep rising in a fluctuating pattern, peaking around November at 3.2-3.5 degrees Celsius, which would make this the strongest super El Nino event on record.
