Shaanxi's power spot market will transition to formal operation, according to a notice jointly issued by the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Northwest Regulatory Bureau of the National Energy Administration.

The market began continuous settlement trial operation in January 2025 and has run continuously for one year and eight months, according to the notice.

It has withstood multiple scenarios including summer and winter peak supply, high renewable energy output and major holidays, operating smoothly and playing a key role in ensuring power supply, promoting low-carbon transition and reducing electricity costs.

The transition to formal operation will take effect on September 25, 2026, following approval by the Shaanxi provincial government and filing with the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration.
