The Council of the European Union said on September 22 that it extended sanctions against more than 3,000 Russian individuals and entities by 36 months, until September 22, 2029. The measures include travel restrictions and asset freezes on individuals, as well as a ban on providing funds or other economic resources to those on the list. Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on February 24, 2022, the EU has significantly expanded sanctions against Russia, prompting countermeasures from Moscow. The effectiveness of the EU's sanctions has been widely questioned within the bloc.
