China's total electricity consumption rose 1.7% year on year in July, data from the National Energy Administration showed on August 21.

Total power use reached 1,040 TWh in July, with the secondary sector - primarily industrial activities - consuming 611.6 TWh, up 3.0% year on year. Industrial power use alone rose 3.3% to 605.5 TWh, while high-tech and equipment manufacturing saw a sharper 8.9% increase to 122 TWh.

The tertiary sector, largely services, consumed 218.3 TWh in July, up 4.8% year on year. Charging and battery-swapping services surged 50.3% to 16.4 TWh, while internet data services jumped 40.1% to 9.9 TWh.

Residential power use fell 5.1% year on year to 193.5 TWh in July, while the primary sector, mainly agriculture, saw a 2.0% decline to 16.7 TWh.

In the January-July period, cumulative power consumption rose 4.7% year on year to 6,139.9 TWh. Industrial power use increased 4.9% to 3,881.5 TWh, with high-tech and equipment manufacturing up 9.7% at 722.8 TWh.

Services sector consumption grew 7.4% to 1,210 TWh in the first seven months, led by charging services up 55.8% and internet data services up 43.3%. Residential power use edged up 1.3% to 924.9 TWh.
