China imported 29.11 million tonnes of thermal coal (non-coking coal) in July 2026, up 12.03% year on year but down 4.85% from the previous month, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs.
The import value stood at $2.52 billion in July, up 61.09% year on year and 1.82% month on month, implying an average import price of $86.55/t, up 43.79% from a year earlier and 7.01% from a month ago.

During January-July 2026, China's cumulative thermal coal imports totaled 188 million tonnes, down 3.73% year on year, with the import value reaching $13.56 billion, up 4.28% from the same period last year.
The average import price for the first seven months of 2026 was calculated at $72.25/t, up 8.33% year on year.
