China Energy Engineering's 100 MW concentrated solar power (CSP) project, part of the Qinghai-Henan ultra-high-voltage transmission corridor, has entered commercial operation after passing a 14-day trial run.

The project, built by China Energy Engineering's Zhejiang Thermal Power subsidiary for China Three Gorges Renewables, is located in the Gobi desert of Qinghai province. It features a 12-hour molten salt energy storage system designed to smooth the intermittency of renewable power and support grid stability.

During the trial, the unit operated continuously for 219.4 hours without shutdown, generating 11.15 GWh. Cumulative generation since grid connection on April 29, 2025 reached 99.11 GWh.

At full load, the project is expected to generate 227 GWh annually, enough to power nearly 190,000 households and cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 226,300 tonnes per year.
