China has delivered a domestically developed 99,000-cubic-meter very large ethane carrier (VLEC) on Aug 18, with overall technical indicators reaching internationally advanced levels. The 230-meter vessel is designed to transport multiple liquefied industrial and energy gases including ethane, ethylene and liquefied petroleum gas, offering low fuel consumption and maintenance costs suited for long-haul voyages as an economical and environmentally friendly ship. The vessel primarily supports ethane transport for domestic petrochemical enterprises and is equipped with shaft generators and an ethane-fueled main engine that can reduce sulfur emissions by 99% and hydrocarbon emissions by 18%, contributing to greener shipping.
