Russian mining company Urgalugol JSC has pushed coal output past seven million tonnes since the start of 2026, keeping production and processing well above plan while feeding a sharp rise in shipments through the Osterra terminal.

By August 10, the company had mined more than 7 million tonnes of coal. From January to July, Osterra increased shipments of Urgalugol products by 67% to 3.9 million tonnes, PortNews reported.

Underground operations at the Severnaya mine led the overperformance. Since the beginning of the year, the mine produced 2.49 million tonnes against a plan of 1.94 million tonnes, an excess of 28.5%. Mining section No. 3 contributed 2.33 million tonnes, compared with a planned 1.85 million tonnes. At the Bureinsky open pit, output reached 539,403 tonnes versus a 474,000-tonne plan, while stripping work amounted to 3.77 million cubic meters against a planned 3.49 million cubic meters.

Processing kept pace with mining. The Chegdomyn coal processing plant handled 7.48 million tonnes, exceeding its plan of 7.33 million tonnes. Shipments of 0-50 mm beneficiated coal reached 2.70 million tonnes, 1.96% above plan. Rail deliveries to customers totaled 5.03 million tonnes, up 2.2% from the same period last year.

Development work also ran ahead of schedule: 6,534 linear meters of mine workings were completed since January, compared with a plan of 5,393 linear meters, or 121 percent of the annual target.

Osterra's press service said the growth is being supported by Russian Railways' expansion of the Eastern Polygon, Urgalugol's rising production and Port Alliance's terminal capacity increases.

Urgalugol said the sustained overfulfillment of production programs provides a reliable foundation for expanding the export potential of the Khabarovsk Territory and strengthening the position of Russian coal in Asia-Pacific markets.
