Shanghai's ship exports reached 40.09 billion yuan in the first seven months of 2026, up 64.1% year on year, with high-end vessels such as liquid cargo ships and large container ships accounting for 83.9% of the total, according to Shanghai Customs. Shanghai, a key hub for China's high-end ship and marine engineering equipment industry, boasts a complete service chain spanning research and development, design, assembly and construction, core components and supply chain support. A survey shows major shipbuilders in the city are operating at full capacity with ample order books, with some production schedules already extended to 2030.
