The 1,000 kV Ganjiang-Gannan AC power transmission project has received approval from the Jiangxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, marking the first ultra-high voltage (UHV) AC project approved in central China during the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period.

The project, funded by State Grid Corp of China's Central China branch, will build a new 1,000 kV Gannan substation with 2×3,000 MVA of transformer capacity and 2×298.9 km of new transmission lines.

Once operational, it will significantly boost transmission capacity across the north-south section of Jiangxi's power grid, support the integration and stable operation of the Tengger-Jiangxi UHV DC project, and strengthen the regional UHV AC network in central China.

Following the start of feasibility studies, the Central China branch optimized system designs based on the latest boundary conditions, conducted on-site surveys of proposed substation and line routes, and worked with State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power Co., Ltd. to secure all necessary approvals. The project received its approval just 20 days after the application was submitted.
