Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei green power trading surges 40% YoY in H1

Green power trading volumes among Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei provinces exceeded 30 billion kWh for the first time in the first half of the year, surging 40% year on year.

State Grid's North China branch said on July 30 that inter-provincial green power trading in the region reached 31.2 billion kWh in January-June, driven by enhanced regional coordination, optimized market operations and innovative trading mechanisms.

The branch issued two task lists to promote cross-regional and inter-provincial green power trading, with the intra-regional inter-provincial market now operating continuously on a daily basis. A total of 2,550 Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei users participated in intra-regional inter-provincial green power trading in the first half, with volumes reaching 20.9 billion kWh, exceeding the full-year total for 2025.

The North China grid became the first regional grid to launch monthly continuous trading for multi-year green power purchase agreements (PPA), providing more flexible windows for new energy companies and users to sign long-term contracts. Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei PPA trading volumes reached 9 billion kWh this year, up 230% year on year.

Building on staggered green power trading across the "Three North" regions, the branch collaborated with State Grid Heilongjiang and Qinghai to launch "wind-solar relay" green power deliveries to Beijing, leveraging complementary output patterns of different renewable sources.

Beijing's green power trading volumes reached 20.3 billion kWh in the first half, surpassing 20 billion kWh for the first time, with market-based user participation exceeding thermal power trading scale for the first time. Fourteen provinces across northern, northwestern, northeastern, central and southwestern China now supply green power to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, with cross-regional trading volumes up 51% year on year.
