Photovoltaic systems in Germany supplied over 12 TWh of electricity to the public grid in July, as installed capacity expanded and sunshine hours surged, according to data from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.
The Energy-Charts platform, an interactive online tool created by Fraunhofer ISE, recorded 12.04 TWh of solar power for the month, exceeding the 11 TWh mark first reached in June. In July 2025, solar fed 8.38 TWh into the grid, when Germany had about 107 GW of installed capacity compared with 125 GW currently.
Germany recorded an unusually high 272 hours of sunshine in the month, about 30% above the 1961-1990 average of 211 hours and well above the 189 hours recorded the same month last year, according to the German Meteorological Service. Some southwestern regions saw between 325 and 350 hours, averaging 11 to 12 hours per day.
The latest data follows Fraunhofer's last report on July 31 showing photovoltaics supplied more than 20% of EU electricity demand in May, June and July for the first time. In Germany, the solar share of electricity demand topped 30% across each of those months, reaching a preliminary 31.6% in July.
