China's top economic planner and energy regulator have issued a plan for building a new power system during the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period, setting a strategic goal of initially establishing the system by 2030.

The plan, released by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Energy Administration (NEA), outlines major targets, key projects and priority tasks for the power sector over the next five years.

By 2030, non-fossil energy is expected to account for 50% of total power generation, according to the plan. The country aims to ensure high-level consumption of more than 2.8 TW of new energy and build a charging infrastructure network capable of supporting over 110 million electric vehicles.

The plan also calls for breakthroughs in key technologies and equipment supporting the new power system, and the basic establishment of a unified national electricity market system.
