China's top economic planner and energy regulator have issued a plan for building a new power system during the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period (2026-2030), calling for scientific development of conventional hydropower and advancing construction and commissioning of projects in key river basins including the upper Jinsha River, upper Lancang River, middle Yalong River and Dadu River. The plan also calls for safe and orderly progress on major projects such as hydropower development in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, targeting conventional hydropower installed capacity of around 410 GW by 2030.
