Stanmore Q2 raw coal output rises 27% QoQ

Australian miner Stanmore Coal reported a strong operational rebound in the second quarter, with raw coal output and sales both rising from the prior quarter as operations recovered from severe weather disruptions.

The company produced 5.09 million tonnes of raw coal in the April-June quarter, up 27% from 4.0 million tonnes in the first quarter, according to its quarterly report released on July 27.

Commercial coal output reached 3.27 million tonnes in the quarter, up 2.86% from the previous quarter, while coal sales totaled 3.37 million tonnes, up 11.44% quarter on quarter.

The average coal selling price during the period was $154/t, up from $152/t in the first quarter.

Stanmore said the strong second-quarter performance followed a recovery from severe wet weather that had impacted the first quarter, adding that year-to-date production was fully in line with its full-year guidance.

The company also accelerated overburden removal and pit preparation at the South Walker Creek mine to lay the groundwork for a strong performance in the second half of the year.

For the first half of 2026, raw coal output totaled 9.09 million tonnes, down 0.89% from 9.17 million tonnes a year earlier. Commercial coal output stood at 6.45 million tonnes, down 0.9% year on year, while coal sales reached 6.4 million tonnes, down 2.41% from the same period last year. The average selling price for the first half was $153/t, up from $132/t a year earlier.
