Hubei Energy's Jiangling coal-fired power plant has entered full commercial operation after its second 660 MW unit passed a 168-hour full-load trial run.

The plant's total installed capacity of 1.32 GW is designed to generate nearly 6 TWh annually, enough to meet the electricity needs of over 2 million households.

As the first coal-fired plant in Hubei province to apply 660 MW ultra-supercritical double-reheat technology, Jiangling boasts deep peak-shaving capability among the province's thermal power enterprises.

"When wind and solar output surges on the grid, we can free up more transmission space for renewables. When power gaps emerge, we have greater output adjustment range," said Hu Shaobin, Party chief of Hubei Energy Jiangling Power Generation Company.

The plant also offers strong economic and environmental performance. Its designed standard coal consumption for power supply is 264.63 grams per kWh, saving about 40,000 tonnes of standard coal and cutting nearly 110,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually compared with benchmark units of similar capacity.

Located at the intersection of the Haoji Railway and the Yangtze River, the plant sits next to Jingzhou Coal Port, the largest coal-water-rail transfer hub in central China, using a dedicated coal conveyor belt for point-to-point fuel supply, significantly improving fuel supply stability and cost efficiency.
