Mongolia's coal production surged in the first half of 2026 to a record high, registering a year-on-year increase of almost 50%.

The country produced 60.96 million tonnes of coal in January-June, up 48.72% year on year, according to the National Statistics Office of Mongolia.

June output stood at 10.98 million tonnes, up 84.72% from a year earlier but down 6.27% from the previous month, remaining at a relatively high level.

In the first six months, Mongolia's iron ore output totaled 6.08 million tonnes, up 26.04% year on year. This included 4.09 million tonnes of iron sand and 1.99 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, up 21.67% and 36.10%, respectively.

June iron ore production was 1.33 million tonnes, down 1.24% year on year and 5.02% month on month. Iron sand output fell 11.98% from a year earlier and 13.80% from the prior month to 840,600 tonnes, while iron ore concentrate output rose 25.19% year on year and 15.26% month on month to 486,200 tonnes.
