SW China intra-provincial multi-day power trades debut

The first intra-provincial multi-day power trades in Southwest China have been successfully concluded lately, with 96 GWh transacted.

The new trading product, launched by the State Grid Southwest China branch, marks the formal application of multi-day trading in the regional grid and strengthens the medium- and long-term trading system.

The trades enabled bidirectional power flows between Chongqing city and the Xizang region for the first time. Power flows from Chongqing to Xizang bolstered supply security in the autonomous region while freeing up transmission capacity on the Sichuan Panxi corridor, easing hydropower and renewable energy curtailment in the area and supporting the Sichuan main grid during the summer peak season.

Flows from Xizang to Chongqing validated the role of multi-day trading in meeting inter-provincial portfolio adjustment needs and correcting generation capacity forecasts, boosting market participant engagement.

State Grid Southwest China branch has been conducting regular market cultivation, organizing continuous medium- and long-term trading on a calendar-day basis, establishing an efficient and flexible inter-provincial trading model.
