Cumulative electricity transfers via the Gansu-Hunan ultra-high voltage (UHV) power link have exceeded 240 TWh, State Grid Gansu Electric Power Co said on July 16.

As of July 15, the total had reached 240.12 TWh, with clean energy accounting for over 40% of the volume, equivalent to saving about 11.8 million tonnes of standard coal.

Soaring temperatures across central China since early summer have driven a sharp rise in power demand. On July 14, the peak load on Hunan's power grid hit 48.09 GW, surpassing the previous record by 1.45 GW.

Under dispatch orders, the Gansu-Hunan link has delivered over 100 GWh per day for 14 consecutive days since the start of July. Cumulative outbound transfers from Gansu since June have exceeded 4 TWh.

Since the link was commissioned in 2017, State Grid Gansu has carried out key technological upgrades and innovations at the Qilian converter station, achieving 3,309 days of safe operation.
