Shanxi mine safety deputy chief under disciplinary probe after deadly coal mine disaster

Zhang Chengzhi, a member of the Party leadership and deputy director of the National Mine Safety Administration's Shanxi bureau, is under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and law, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced on July 20. Zhang, born in September 1970, had previously been involved in overseeing mine safety work in the province. The probe follows the deadly May 22 gas explosion at the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan county, which killed 82 people, with multiple officials in the coal sector already having been investigated.
