Rolling blackouts continue to hit large parts of Indonesia's Kalimantan, with state utility PLN attributing the disruptions to simultaneous technical failures amid heat waves instead of coal shortage at multiple power plants across the island's interconnected grid. Outages that began in late Jun have affected four of Kalimantan's five provinces, forcing rotating cuts that typically last about three hours in affected areas. In East Kalimantan, authorities say repairs at the Handil coal-fired plant and Tanjung Batu gas-fired plant are expected to take until the end of Jul, while PLN told South Kalimantan authorities that outages could stretch into Sep due to disruptions in the Kalimantan interconnection system, Kompas reported.
