China produced 41.66 million tonnes of washed coking coal in November 2025, up 4.2% month on month, according to the latest data from Sxcoal.

The volume was also 3.1% higher than the year-ago level, Sxcoal data showed. Daily output averaged 1.39 million tonnes during the month.

In early November, coking coal supply diminished across major producing regions due to underground issues or environmental restrictions. Supply then rebounded following operation resumptions at several mines.

Raw coking coal output rose 3.5% month on month to 113.36 million tonnes last month, which increased 1.6% from the previous year.

As such, China's coking coal prices extended rise in the first half of November, supported by supply contractions and decent demand. However, offers retreated in the second half amid supply recovery. Downstream buyers' resistance to pricier cargoes also played a part.

As the end of November, the CCI index for Shanxi low-sulfur coking coal stood at 1,574 yuan/t, ex-washplant with VAT, falling 26 yuan/t month on month. High-sulfur grades declined 10 yuan/t on the month to 1,364 yuan/t.

The top five washed coking coal suppliers last month were Shanxi, Shandong, Guizhou, Inner Mongolia, and Anhui, contributing about 74% of China's total output. All these provinces and regions registered month-on-month gains.

Coal-rich Shanxi province remained the top supplier in November, contributing 18.42 million tonnes or 44% of the total washed coking coal output, rising 1.8% on the month but falling 1.8% from the year before. Its raw coking coal output ticked up 0.7% on the month yet dropped 1.4% year on year to 60.32 million tonnes, taking up about 53% of the total.

Eastern China's Anhui province presented the largest month-on-month growth of 17.9% in washed coking coal output, hitting 2.27 million tonnes in the month. The volume, however, was 2.3% higher than the year-ago level.

Southwestern China's Guizhou province followed with a 13.9% month-on-month growth in washed coking coal supply. The November volume reached 3.31 million tonnes, jumping 15.5% from a year ago.

China's washed coking coal supply reached 438.50 million tonnes over January-November, up 1.4% from the same period last year, with growth expanding 0.2 percentage point from the first ten months. Daily output during the first 11 months averaged 1.31 million tonnes, Sxcoal data showed.
