Production The average capacity utilization at 160 thermal coal mines surveyed in Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia stood at 84.57% during the reporting week, down 4.24 pps from the previous week. More mines cut or stopped production as they are about to or already have completed their production targets for the year.
Stock Total coal inventory at surveyed mines stood at 4.07 Mt, decreasing 1158 Kt WoW. Supply contracted as more mines reduced or suspended production for the completion of annual production goals. Most buyers continued on-demand purchases. Coal sales at some mines with high price competitiveness improved after purchasing prices for third-party coal from top coal miner stabilized.
Price Over the week, 7.5% of surveyed coal mines raised prices by an average of 13 yuan/t, while 25% reduced prices by 32 yuan/t on average. After top coal miner gave stable buying prices for third-party coal, some spot buyers started restocking, leading to improved sales at some mines with high price edge. Several mines started to firm up prices amid reduced production. However, traders remained cautious and the overall demand remained capped.
