A total of 1.21 billion green power certificates were issued in November, showed data from the National Energy Administration (NEA).

Among them, 650 million certificates were issued for wind power, accounting for 53.93% of the total; 205 million for solar power, 17.01%; 246 million for hydropower, 20.45%; 103 million for biomass power, 8.55%; and other renewables 820,000, 0.07%, the NEA data showed.

As of the end of November, cumulative 4.76 billion green certificates were issued in China, with wind power accounting for 1.97 billion or 41.48% of the total; solar power 886 million, 18.63%; hydropower 1.52 billion, 32.04%; biomass power 367 million, 7.72%; and other renewables 6.49 million, 0.14%.

Some 439 million green power certificates were traded by the end of November, including 54.26 million traded in November alone.

Green power certificates function as electronic identifiers for transactions of renewable power. Given the uniform nature of electricity, once it enters the grid, its attributes cannot be differentiated by either the grid or consumers. These certificates provide proof of green power usage for their holders.

Each certificate represents 1 MWh of renewable power produced from sustainable sources and can be traded independently from the actual green power. The primary trading platforms for these certificates are the Beijing Power Exchange Center and the Guangzhou Power Exchange Center.
