The Chinese government has officially expressed willingness to resolve the Gashuunsukhait-Ganqimaodu connection issue through an international agreement between the two governments, according to the Government of Mongolia.

L.Oyun-Erdene, prime minister of Mongolia, met lately with Shen Minjuan, China's ambassador to Mongolia, and Kang Fengwei, assistant general director of China Energy Investment Corporation, to discuss the connection project of the port border.

The Gashuunsukhait-Ganqimaodu railway project, which has been under discussion since 2009, is set to move forward following L.Oyun-Erdene's visit to China on November 5, 2024, after being suspended for 16 years.

Implementation of this project is expected to facilitate the construction of Hangi-Mandula, Shiveekhuren-Ceke, Bichigt-Zhuengadabuqi (railway and other projects, creating opportunities to increase coal exports to 120 million tonnes and raise per capita GDP to $10,000.
