India Nov coal imports down 25.73% YoY

India imported a total 19.00 million tonnes of coal and coke in November 2024, falling 25.73% year on year (YoY) and 12.92% month on month (MoM), according to data released by Iman Resources.

In the month, non-coking coal imports decreased 35.61% YoY and 13.02% MoM to 11.75 million tonnes, while coking coal intakes fell to 3.65 million tonnes, down 18.03% YoY and 17.27% MoM.

Meanwhile, India imported 1.67 million tonnes of PCI coal during the same month, increasing 19.40% YoY and 2.20% MoM. Anthracite imports slumped 61.01% YoY and 63.37% MoM to 92,700 tonnes.

In November, Indonesia was the largest non-coking coal supplier to India with shipment at 7.56 million tonnes, falling 32.53% YoY and 5.25% MoM. Non-coking coal intakes from South Africa came in at 2.85 million tonnes, down 14.86% YoY and 12.12% MoM, data showed.

The country imported 2.14 million tonnes of coking coal from Australia over the month, down 17.40% YoY and 9.08% MoM; inflows from the U.S. were 611,800 tonnes, down 18.26% YoY and 25.09% MoM.

Over January-November, India's coal and coke imports totaled 246 million tonnes, down 0.83% YoY. Non-coking coal imports decreased 4.28% YoY to 157 million tonnes, while coking coal imports decreased 3.79% YoY to 50.19 million tonnes. Imports of PCI coal rose 19.89% YoY to 18.98 million tonnes.
