The Jiangcheng ±500 kV DC transmission project, the first power transmission channel from Three Gorges Dam to Guangdong, has delivered over 320 TWh of clean power to southeastern China's Guangdong province since its initial transmission 20 years ago, according to Guangdong Power Grid Company.
The electricity supplied is equivalent to three times the annual power consumption of Dongguan city in the province, saving 98 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing 270 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The project has steadily transmitted more than 10 TWh of clean hydropower to Guangdong each year for two decades, providing reliable support for the province's power demand.
"In 2024, the project has transmitted around 11.5 TWh of clean power to Guangdong, with a peak load of 2.8 GW, on par with the annual power consumption of a medium-sized city in Guangdong," a company official said.
