China's independent coke firms churned out 30.71 million tonnes of the steelmaking material in October 2024, up 0.6% on the year, according to data released by the China Coking Industry Association (CCIA).

The output, accounting for 74.5% of the country's total coke output, snapped a three-month sequential decrease and hit the highest in three months.

Coke output from steel firms' captive coking plants was registered at 10.49 million tonnes in August, down 5.0% from the preceding year, the CCIA data showed.

China produced 41.20 million tonnes of coke in October, down 0.9% from the year-ago level, narrowing by 4.4 percentage points from September, data showed.

From January to October, coke output of independent coking plants reached 301.98 million tonnes, flat year on year, while that of captive firms decreased 4.2% to 103.73 million tonnes.

China's coke output totaled 405.71 million tonnes in the first nine months, a 1.1% drop from a year earlier.

Coke output of member firms of the CCIA totaled 20.35 million tonnes in October, falling 2.36% from the year before.
