India imported a total 25.61 million tonnes of coal in November, rising 37.34% year on year and a 0.12% uptick on the month, according to data released by Iman resources.

In the month, non-coking coal imports in the country increased 54.27% from a year ago but fell 4.23% from the previous month to 18.19 million tonnes, while coking coal intakes reached 4.51 million tonnes, up 18.1% year on year and 6.36% on the month.

India imported 1.40 million tonnes of PCI coal during the same period, declining 12.57% from the year prior yet up 15.61% from a month earlier. Anthracite imports surged 151.4% year on year and 53.07% month on month to 237,700 tonnes.

In November, Indonesia was the largest non-coking coal supplier to India with shipment at 11.20 million tonnes, up 50.24% YoY but down 5.78% MoM. Non-coking coal intakes from South Africa came in at 3.35 million tonnes, soaring 212.22% YoY and up 12.63% MoM, data showed.

The country imported 2.59 million tonnes of coking coal from Australia over the month, rising 7.98% YoY but a 1.5% drop MoM; inflows from the U.S. were 748,500 tonnes, up 33.4% YoY and 29.7% MoM.

In the first eleven months this year, India's accumulated imports of non-coking coal reached 163 million tonnes and that of coking coal stood at 52.22 million tonnes. PCI coal imports totaled 15.83 million tonnes.
