China closes 10.71 GW of small coal-fired power plants

China has closed 10.71 gigawatts of inefficient small coal-fired power plants as of July 15, two months ahead of schedule, the official Xinhua News Agency reported on Jul 25, citing the National Energy Administration.

China has shut 70.77 gigawatts of small thermal power plants since 2006 under a plan aimed at boosting coal burning efficiency, the news agency said.
