Macarthur drops plans to buy Citic mine rights
Jul 28, 2010 | en.sxcoal.com

Macarthur coal has terminated a deal with its major shareholder Citic Resources to purchase the Chinese company's interest in a NSW mine.

Macarthur had announced in Dec 2009 it would acquire Citic's ownership and marketing interests in the Coppabella and Moorvale joint venture in a $110 million deal that would boost Citic's major stake in the miner.

The Brisbane-based company said on Jul 27 that the parties had decided to terminate the deal because the waivers of pre-emptive rights from the joint venture's minority participants had not been forthcoming.

The deal also would have terminated Citic's marketing rights over coal sales to China and India for production from the joint venture.
